Song for Nettie

Dress, installed sound, song, performance
Pitz-Hanger Gallery, London, 2007 in group show Paisley: The Teardrop Explodes

Found and collected narratives, objects from my hometown and its textile history. Told through the lens of my relationship with grandmother and her role in the textile industry. In three parts.

(1) A gallery based sound installation featuring the voices of Paisley townsfolk discussing their relationships with the textile history of their hometown; and a textile work, a dress, fashioned entirely from found pieces of Paisley pattern, with the story of the Paisley textile industry intricately embroidered on it. A sculptural intervention (2) was created in the restored Drawing Room of Pitz-Hanger Manor using sonic and textile materials encountered and collected in the process of making the installed work; and a song (3) was written for performance in the dress that responded to and interacted with the sound installation.
